About Gyokuro Tea
Gyokuro is admired as the highest grade of Japanese green tea. Its leaves are grown in the shade for twenty days before being expertly picked by hand. Then they are immediately steamed, dried and carefully rolled into distinctive shapes resembling pine needles. Gyokuro is harvested only once a year in the early spring. The delicate flavor and slightly sweet aftertaste make Gyokuro the choice of green-tea connoisseurs.
Brewing Suggestions:
First Infusion: Add 1 gram of tea per 100 ml of fresh water, or about one tablespoon per potful. Heat the water to 80C (180F) and brew for one minute.
Second Infusion: Brew with the same temperature water as the first infusion but for only a few seconds. Please note that the caffeine content of Japanese green tea becomes significantly less after the first steeping.
Notes: We brewed the tea as suggested above in our taste tests in order to write the product description. We recommend that you experiment with your own techniques to find your most desired taste profile. For a healthy and invigorating refreshment in hot weather chill the liquid in your refrigerator/freezer to the desired temperature or pour over ice. Our products may be kept in your refrigerator before the package is opened. After opening the package, seal and store it in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Please do not place an opened package back into your refrigerator.
We ship directly to our customers worldwide. Your order will be processed on a secure server at ShizuokaTea.com, then efficiently handled and shipped from Shizuoka, Japan. All of our teas are packaged in foil bags, so they arrive to you fresh. We offer Guaranteed Satisfaction and Free Shipping, as explained below.
Free Shipping:
Free shipping is effective for all orders shipped worldwide (Except Australia, United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom See below) for USD$40 or more via Japan Post.
Free FedEx International shipping over any order of USD$200.
Orders less than USD$40 will be billed at a flat rate of USD$20 for shipping and handling.
USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, UK, and France Customers: Due to COVID-19, Japan Post has temporarily stopped shipping items via Air Packet. Due to this, any purchase below $100 will be billed a flat rate of USD$20. Above USD$100, we ship for free via EMS Air.
Delivery: Almost all consumer-packaged orders are shipped with tracking from Japan by regular small packet air mail, or in the case of large packages, by ground or ocean freight. Most orders arrive within 10 days under normal conditions. (Due to COVID-19, USA, and Australia Shipment currently does not provide tracking numbers, but we will guarantee delivery for you.) Please contact us before you place your order if you wish to pay extra for it to be shipped with insurance, a return receipt, or by registered mail. Overnight or other expedited shipments are usually not available. We regularly use USPS, Japan Post, and FedEx (including automatic tracking) at our discretion. These shippers are highly efficient, and we rarely have problems with them.
Our shipments are sometimes subject to customs inspection, which may delay the arrival of your order, and for which we have no control. Please contact us if you have not received your tea within 30 days. If, after 30 days, your order has been determined to be lost, abandoned, or stolen, we will give you a full refund less any previously paid shipping and handling charges. We will not make a shipment twice to the same address where problems have occurred unless the shippee pays additionally for secure delivery service.
Order Processing, Order Receipt: Once you submit your order and it is successfully processed on our secure server, your browser will display an order summary entitled "Order Receipt." Please print this page for your records. Shortly thereafter, you will receive an email confirmation as well, but this email could be delayed owing to Internet server traffic. You will not receive a follow up e-mail after your purchase has been shipped because most orders arrive within a relatively short time period.
Taxes: Tea is not subject to sales/consumption tax in the US. Sales/consumption tax on shipments outside the US will be collected by the carrier, dependent upon the local tax authority regulations, and is the responsibility of the buyer. If tea is taxed in your part of the world (Europe for example), the carrier will collect this tax from you the buyer.

Hundreds of Years of Superior Quality
Consistently cultivating quality tea leaves is but one part; the other is the fine art and science of creating finished green tea. Bringing out highly desirable flavor from raw tea leaves requires a delicate balance of creativity and skill. There are numerous ways of producing green tea, and the tea master must follow precise steps taken in a timely manner. It is believed tea cultivation and production in Shizuoka began during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333). The result of centuries of accumulated blending and processing wisdom and mastery is evident in each new cup of Shizuoka green tea.
ShizuokaTea.com sources the best available Japanese green tea from large, medium and small size processing/packaging companies, and also directly from tea farmers. Our major suppliers collectively have hundreds of years of experience, are highly skilled, operate very clean facilities and are ISO Certified, which is very important in a time when there is concern for food safety. We are in constant contact with the Japanese green tea industry from our year-around staffed buying office in Shizuoka, Japan in an effort to bring our valued customers superior quality products.
